STEP ONE: The Evaluation
We learn from you!
- Your child’s strengths, interests, difficulties, and developmental history
- Your concerns for their speech, language, hearing, feeding, social, cognitive and pre-literacy skills
The evaluation involves using a variety of methods with your child. This is done in a fun way with motivators and breaks if needed.
- We will:
- Engage your child in standardized and non-standardized testing procedures
- Play with your child
- Watch you and your child playing together
- Ask your child to copy action/movements/sounds/words
- Look in and around your child’s mouth for physical factors
- Observe your child following directions
STEP TWO: Goals and Plans
- All data and testing gathered will be analyzed and written in a report to be discussed with you
- The speech pathologist will write goals and make a plan to address identified areas of concern as well as emerging skills using evidence based practices
- Session length and frequency will be determined after the first visit.
STEP THREE: Therapy Begins
The speech pathologist will:
-
- Guide you on a variety of communication building techniques to increase your child’s understanding and expression of language
- Work with you and your child in areas of communication that are foundational to talking
- Develop a meaningful way for your child to communicate
- We may, as required:
- Use a variety of prompts such as music, pictures, simple signs, verbal cues, video modeling, touch, and melodic intonation techniques
- Use behavior strategies such as visual schedules, timers, and reward systems individualized to your child’s needs to increase your child’s attention and decrease frustrations
