Questions are welcomed and encouraged!

Anderson Speech Therapy wants to provide you with as much information as we can within our scope of practice. Further, we recognize your dedication to playing a key role in your child’s development and success.

Does your child sound nasal, breathy, or chronically congested?

Resonance: Your child’s speech resonants through the mouth and nose to shape the sound and provide the underlying tone of their voice. When a resonance issue is present your child may sound monotone, nasal, or as if they have a head cold that lasts and lasts.

Additionally, resonance issues may be caused by a physical issue of a cleft lip, cleft palate, fistula (small hole in the hard or soft palate). If this is suspected, a referral to a Cleft Palate Team should be made.

Treatment for clefts begins at a very young age. The Cleft Palate Team typically consists of a plastic surgeon, dentist/orthodontist, and speech pathologist.

Anderson Speech Therapy can help your child even if a physical cause is identified. It is never too early to start therapy. Anderson Speech Therapy will work with you and your Cleft Palate Team to ensure the best course of treatment is provided for your child.
